SUBJECT: REPLACING MOTORS/JACKSHAFTS ON MACHINES USING ELECTRIC CLUTCHES
Dear MILNOR Dealer/Customer:
As you may have noticed, we have increased the length of the taper on applications where an electric clutch is mounted on a motor shaft or jackshaft.
After this change, we found that some clutches did not fit properly on the new shaft design. The fit-up problem was caused by the clutch manufacturer not boring the taper in the clutch to the same or greater depth as our new tapered shaft design.
To fix the problem, you may ream the electric clutch using a 5/8" drill but to insure clearance between backout threads and the tapered shaft.
NOTE: USE CARE NOT TO DAMAGE THE TAPERED SURFACE PAST THE THREADS.
We have included a copy of our bulletin "How To Remove and Install Electric Clutches From Tapered Motor Shafts" for your ready reference.
Thanks for your continue confidence and support.
Yours truly,
