SUBJECT: PRESS SLED DRIVE IMPROVEMENTS

Dear MILNOR Dealer/Customer:

1. SLED DRIVE (Motors & Clutches)

In early MILNOR Press productions (Presses manufactured before model ABP), MILNOR utilized a 2 clutch and 2 motor sled drive design. We had found this design to work well until clutch wear caused a delayed reaction of the clutches. To accommodate this. MILNOR changed the design in early "1989" and replaced one clutch with a fixed pulley. The design also required a change in the slow motor from a 6 pole to a 12 pole motor. In addition, the two motors on the drive changed physical locations.

The new design works quite well and eliminates the possibility of the sled traveling past a target thus hitting the mechanical sled stop.

The new design is retrofit-able to old presses. M kit number KUDSCS0100 includes a slow motor and a fixed pulley for retrofit to the sled drive assembly . In addition, instructions are included on how to rewire the control circuit for proper operation of these changes. The kit carries a special reduced price as a incentive to make this change.

We anticipate the retrofit labor to take approximately 5-6 hours. We feel that this time is well invested in the new design former reliable operation of the sled drive mechanism.

2. POSITION SENSING SWITCHES

In addition to the drive mechanism improvement, we have also changed the sled position sensing switches to proximity switches (from the previously utilized mechanical limit switches). As a result, a dramatic increase in sled drive control reliability has been reported. The slightly higher proximity switch cost proves to be a good investment. Please see the attached maintenance bulletin which describes the kit available for switch replacements.

If you have any questions regarding these changes, please feel free to call MILNOR's Technical Support at 504-464-0163.
