SUBJECT: FUSE AND WIRE SIZES
Dear MILNOR Dealer/Customer:
For unknown reasons in the recent past, we have been inundated with questions on fuse, circuit breaker and wire sizing. The machines in question range anywhere from 35lb coin operated machines to CBW systems components.
The new MILNOR Fuse and Wire Guide answers all questions regarding electrical service to MILNOR machinery. The Guide also shows circuit breaker sizes. The calculations providing the circuit breaker size are taken directly form the National Electric Code Guidance on this topic. Please remember that better protection for the motors on our machinery is gained through the use of fuses rather than circuit breakers. This especially applies to washer/extractors where the load must be accelerated (necessitating high currents)over a relatively long period of time. Because of this, circuit breakers are generally oversized, thus providing a lack of protection for overload conditions.
For all CBW systems where MILNOR provides electrical service details, we will also provide a copy of the fuse and wire guide. We ask that you place this directly in the hands of the electrician servicing these installations so that he can be guided appropriately. Remember that the electrical service schedules on the systems electrical schedule is utilized only for calculating service feeds to the entire facility rather than any specific machine. If the electrician uses the numbers provided on the electrical schedule, he will probably undersize the branch feeds to each machine.
If you have any questions or would like us to send you a copy of the fuse and wire guide (MAEFUSE1AE), please call MILNOR Technical Support, 504-467-9591, Ext. 276 - the book is free.
Best Regards,
