Diaphragm Kits

Depending on what model press a customer has and the options on that press it will affect what parts are necessary to install a diaphragm. The attached Acrobat file shows you what items will be necessary based on press model and options.

Big idea
What press model does the customer have?
Is the diaphragm full of water or gum rubber?
Does the press have the ratcheting ram?

The answers to those 3 questions will help you determine what the needs of the customer are.

Dear Milnor Dealer,

We will be making changes to the way we sell Single Station Press diaphragms. Beginning on May 1st we will no longer sell part numbers KYSSPMRA00, KYSSPMRA01, KYSSPMRA02, KYSSPMRA03, KYSSPMRA04 and KYSSPMRA05 that contain diaphragms and associated hardware and chemicals. Instead we will sell components within these kits under multiple part numbers.

As we have developed different solutions for the press diaphragm we find that the combinations of hardware and chemicals make the previous kits a mismatch to some presses in the field. For example, some customers use gum rubber fill for the diaphragm which does not require the installation kit with chemicals. Another example illustrates that the hardware for mounting the diaphragm when a rotating device is installed on the press uses countersunk bolts instead of hex bolts. New machines are shipped with gum rubber fill and rotating devices so little or no parts are needed other than a new diaphragm (and possibly some bolts). The list goes on with possible combinations of hardware and chemicals needed for any specific user.

The end users probably have more chemicals on hand than they need because the quantities shipped were in excess of the normal usage. This especially applies to the Hazmat Chemicals. In addition, some of the chemicals are HAZMAT and require special shipment processing that may put the shipper at risk with the Homeland Security Department if the shipment is not handled properly. So, the less HAZMAT we ship the better.

Here is what you need to know and help accomplish:

End users should have all the parts they need to change a diaphragm in stock. It could be that more hardware and chems are ordered than diaphragms as to build an on hand inventory. We would suggest 2 changes of hardware on hand, minimum.
The chemicals and hardware are relatively inexpensive if isolated from a diaphragm. This allows the end user to order, and have on hand, the inexpensive parts needed and source a diaphragm quickly without restriction to the freight method due to HAZMAT. In the case of ordering HAZMAT chemicals, these should be ordered well in advance since ground shipment is the cheapest method of shipment.
Dealer stock should include some of each kit depending on the needs in the territory.
This information needs to be shared with the end user at order time to ensure proper parts arrival and stocking levels.
To help you ascertain the right parts, see the attached document.
